Tejiendo Relatos was born from a trip in Mexico, where Clara and Sebastian approached textile art and made contact with weavers from different communities. Thanks to this enriching experience, where they had thepossibility of knowing, besides the techniques of elaboration like the waist loom or the natural processes of dyeing, a lot of myths and legends about the textiles, was like this dream originated that traveled to the mountain of the Andes

Synopsis

Weaving Stories is a documentary that reflects the role of the weaver women in Andean communities of Bolivia. The purpose of this work is to inform the world of these women, expressed through ancient textile techniques. The film contains 22 interviews with artisans from different regions, as well as some of their husbands in order to reflect this reality. On the other hand the film includes the word from four specialists that contextualize the explanations of women.

First place shows the daily life in the country, pretending to highlight their textile work, in a sum of many other activities. Then reflected their first steps in the textile universe, expressed through personal anecdotes with their ancestors. At the same time you can see a oneiric world, where a series of tales and legends become protagonists, either through weave or by oral narratives. Finally, it challenges the textile heritage and future of these ancient techniques, which come endangered by frequent migration from the countryside to the city.

Woman,  weaver  and  peasant

The Andean woman deals with the land, harvests, cares for animals, educates her children and is an artist who works to preserve her cultural identity through excellent textile pieces. All this makes it a true symbol of struggle. Tejiendo Relatos is an independent project that hopes with respect to reflect the reality of Andean women, reclaiming their tireless work in the conservation of their culture.

Colaborations

The documentary was concreted with the effort of the filmmakers, but with little budget. Clara and Sebastián, undertook this project going over Bolivia, with only one camera. Fortunately they received the help of several associations that relied on their project and supported them with transfers, lodging and food on several occasions. In turn, the different communities, who are the real protagonists of this film, were totally willing to collaborate. Finally, the CEFREC Cinematography and Filmmaking Center, allowed them access to an edition island to be able to edit the film.
